Prosecution Office of the Court of First Instance of Ileia
The Prosecution Office of the Court of First Instance of Ileia – Main Seat Pyrgos is housed in the Courthouse, at 13 28th October Street, and its local jurisdiction includes the municipalities of Pyrgos, Ancient Olympia, Andritsaina – Krestena, and Zacharo.
The Prosecution Office of the Court of First Instance of Ileia was established on July 11, 1867 (Government Gazette 42), based in Pyrgos, alongside the creation of the Court of First Instance of Ileia, during a period of major economic and commercial prosperity for the region, which was driven mainly by the Corinthian raisin trade and the city's connection to the port of Katakolo; its local jurisdiction extended over the entire territorial region of the then prefecture or Province of Ileia. The establishment of the Court of First Instance and the Prosecution Office of Amaliada in 1951 judicially separated northern Ileia from Pyrgos, dividing the prefecture into two judicial districts.
Under the new judicial map of Law 5108/2024 (Government Gazette A/65/02-05-2024), which was fully implemented in September 2024, the Prosecution Office of the Court of First Instance of Ileia was unified and restructured, having Pyrgos as its Central Seat and Amaliada as its Parallel Seat.
The local jurisdiction of the Prosecution Office of the Court of First Instance of Ileia – Parallel Seat of Amaliada extends over the territorial jurisdiction of the Court of First Instance of Ileia – Parallel Seat of Amaliada, which encompasses the municipalities of Ilida, Pineios, and Andravida-Kyllini. It is a judicial authority independent of the courts, acts as a unified and indivisible body, and its mission is to uphold the law, protect citizens, and safeguard the rules of public order.
The Prosecution Office of the Court of First Instance of Amaliada is inextricably linked with the Court of First Instance of Amaliada, as both services were established and constituted simultaneously during the dark period of the Greco-Italian Occupation, specifically in the year 1943, thus breathing new life into the until then declining course of Amaliada and fulfilling the social need of all residents of the lowlands of Ileia, "Coele Elis". It is housed on the 1st floor of the Amaliada Courthouse, owned by the Fund for the Financing of Judicial Buildings of the Ministry of Justice, which stands in the heart of the city of Amaliada and was inaugurated on December 15, 1968, following donations by prominent citizens of Amaliada and the city's Bar Association.
The Prosecution Office of the Court of First Instance of Amaliada has been for many decades a fundamental institution in the administration of justice in northern Ileia. Its operation contributed to the faster service of citizens and the decentralization of judicial services. A significant turning point in its history was the reform of the judicial map. Following the implementation of Law 5108/2024 (Unification of the first instance of jurisdiction, spatial restructuring of civil and criminal courts, and other provisions) (Government Gazette A/65/02-05-2024), the Prosecution Office of the Court of First Instance of Amaliada was designated as the Parallel Seat of the Prosecution Office of the Court of First Instance of Ileia and began operating as such on September 16, 2024, with its judicial services functioning in Amaliada for cases within its local jurisdiction. Its trajectory reflects the broader evolution of Greek justice, from the local court seats of the 20th century to the modern reorganization of the judicial map.
