Prosecutors Office to the Court of First Instance of Karsitsa

The Prosecutors Office to the Court of First Instance of Karditsa is housed on the ground floor of the Karditsa Courthouse.

The Karditsa Courthouse was laid down in 1934 by the Minister of Justice Spyros Taliadouros, who was from Karditsa, on the site of the plot belonging to the "Athena" Public Library. The building is two-story, wide-fronted, and U-shaped, featuring a square, windowless three-story prison structure in its interior (the prison structure has now been demolished). Its austere facade is symmetrically divided by the elevated central entrance section and an imposing porch. Antefixes (akrokerama) above the doorways and plaster rendering mimicking ashlar masonry are its only neo-classically inspired decorative architectural elements. The project was funded before the war through the well-known "megarosimon" special tax from the special fund for the construction of courthouses and prisons, as was the case in several other Greek cities. Due to the circumstances of the war, the building was completed in 1954, after the prisons had already begun operating in 1948.
