1. Core Role

The role of the Prosecutor's Office is twofold: it combines the institutional suppression of delinquency with social protection. It operates as an independent judicial authority ensuring the enforcement of laws, while simultaneously guaranteeing that the judicial process unfolds with transparency, objectivity, and respect for human rights.

2. Main Responsibilities & Duties

• Criminal Prosecution:
  • Examines filed complaints, reports, and charges.
  • Conducts or orders preliminary examinations and investigations to establish punishable offenses (misdemeanors and felonies).
  • Brings cases before the court or refers them to the Investigating Magistrate.
• Supervision of Preliminary Investigation Authorities:
  • Supervises and guides the work of the Hellenic Police, the Coast Guard, and other preliminary investigation officers in Messinia.
• Enforcement of Sentences & Maintenance of Criminal Records:
  • Ensures the precise and timely execution of court decisions and sentences.
  • Manages the issuance of criminal record certificates and extracts for citizens.
• Protection of Minors & Vulnerable Groups:
  • Intervenes protectively in cases of child abuse, neglect, or juvenile delinquency through the designated Juvenile Prosecutor and Probation Officers.
  • Takes measures to protect individuals with mental disorders (e.g., involuntary hospitalization procedures) and victims of domestic violence.
• Protection of the Public Interest:
  • Intervenes in civil or administrative cases when required by law to defend the public interest or public order.
