Information about the Kefallinia Court of First Instance

The Kefallinia Court of First Instance has its seat in Argostoli and maintains a Regional Seat in Sami.

The seat of the Court is housed in the Argostoli Courthouse (Rokkou Vergoti 3 and Georgiou Vergoti Avenue), a two‑storey building with a total area of approximately 2,000 sq.m., constructed in the 1960s. The same building also houses the Public Prosecutor's Office of Kefallinia, the Service of Juvenile Bailiffs, and the Bar Association of Kefallinia.

On the ground floor, there are the courtrooms, the Criminal Department, the Investigation Office, the Preliminary Investigation Office, and the Bailiff's Office. On the first floor are located the Civil Department, the Archives, the transcription room, and the offices of the Plenary of Judges, the President of the Court of First Instance, and the Head of the Secretariat.

The Regional Seat of Sami is housed in a ground‑floor courthouse at 2 Chorofylakis Street, which features one courtroom, two offices, and small storage areas.

The Kefallinia Court of First Instance has seven (7) established positions for judicial officers (one President of the Court of First Instance and six First Instance Judges).

Secretariat support is provided by twenty‑one (21) established positions for judicial clerks, of which eighteen (18) are located at the seat in Argostoli and three (3) at the Regional Seat of Sami.

Following the consolidation of the Courts of First Instance, the Secretariat of the Court is structured into three Departments: the A' Civil Department, the B' Civil Department, and the Criminal Department. The organisation and responsibilities of each Department were established by Decision No. 2/2025 of the Plenary of Judges of the Court of First Instance.

The civil sessions of the Court of First Instance are held at the Argostoli Courthouse, in the two ground‑floor courtrooms and in an additional courtroom on the first floor.

Criminal sessions are held exclusively in the two ground‑floor courtrooms.

At the Regional Seat of Sami, the sessions of the Single‑Member Court of First Instance are held in the sole courtroom on the ground floor.
