The Department of the Juvenile Probation Service and Probation Service for Adults of Alexandroupoli is a regional service of the Ministry of Justice with a dual role and consists of 2 offices.
1st Office: Juvenile Probation Service (ΥΕΑ)
Focuses on:
Extra-institutional Protection: Avoiding incarceration. Using alternative measures in the community. Keeping the child in his/her natural environment.
Prevention: Early intervention in the family and school. Addressing the causes before delinquency occurs.
Reformative Treatment: Educational rather than punitive. Reintegration of the young person into society.
Protection of Children's Rights: Alignment with the International Convention on the Rights of the Child and ensuring the best interests of the minor.
Judicial Support: Conducting social surveys on the minor's family and social environment, assessing needs, proposing individualized intervention, submitting reports to the Judicial and Prosecution Authorities.
Supervision and guidance: Monitoring the progress of minors who have been imposed reformative or therapeutic measures, counseling minors and their families
Prevention: Supporting children who are at risk of becoming victims or perpetrators of criminal acts. Cooperation with schools, child protection agencies, local government, Social Services. Information and prevention actions for juvenile delinquency.
2nd Office: Social Welfare Service (YEKA)
It is mainly aimed at adult offenders and focuses on serving sentences within the community itself, avoiding incarceration.
Community service: Organization, supervision and control of the execution of the court decision to provide community service to public bodies within the limits of the Alexandroupolis Court of First Instance.
Probation under supervision: Monitoring and counseling of individuals who have been sentenced to a suspended sentence under the condition of supervision.
Conditional release: Supervision and smooth social reintegration of released individuals.
