Juvenile Probation and Social Assistance Service of Larisa

The Juvenile Probation and Social Assistance Service of Larisa is based at the Court of First Instance of Larisa and is housed in the Larisa Judicial Court Building, located at the corner of Kouma Street and Megalou Alexandrou Street, on the city's Central Square in the heart of Larisa.

The Larisa Judicial Court Building was designed by the renowned Greek architect Patroklos Karantinos.

The architectural design was completed in 1963, while construction was completed in 1967.

Through the design of the Judicial Court Building, architect and professor Patroklos Karantinos reintroduced the principles of Modernism in a renewed post-war interpretation inspired by the architectural ideas of Le Corbusier, which found many enthusiastic followers in Greece. At the same time, the building preserves the representative character expected of a public institution, reflected in the symmetrical arrangement of its side façades and the monumental portico that defines its main entrance.

The court's services are accommodated on the ground floor and the four upper floors of a meticulously symmetrical floor plan, organized along an axis perpendicular to the main entrance façade.

The uniform horizontal openings of the entrance façade are interrupted by two elongated brise-soleil, which provide effective solar shading for the upper floors while, together with the twelve-column portico, forming the distinctive exterior appearance of the building.

The Juvenile Probation and Social Assistance Service of Larisa, based at the Court of First Instance of Larisa, falls under the 2nd Directorate of Juvenile Probation and Social Assistance Services of Thessaloniki of the Ministry of Justice.

Its operational objective is the provision, within its territorial jurisdiction, of non-custodial measures for minors who have committed an offence or are at risk of becoming offenders or victims of criminal acts. The Service supports the criminal justice system in matters concerning minors, both in the field of preventing juvenile delinquency and victimisation, as well as in the management and treatment of juvenile offenders.

The Service is responsible for providing assistance and supervision to persons who have been sentenced to imprisonment with suspension of the execution of their sentence under supervision, to persons whose sentence has been converted into an obligation to perform community service, and to persons who have been conditionally released.

It is also responsible for conducting social inquiries concerning persons held in temporary detention or persons subject to restrictive conditions, as well as for supervising individuals who have been conditionally released, those sentenced to imprisonment with suspension of execution under supervision, and those whose sentence has been converted into an obligation to perform community service
